VDL hookliftsystem on defence vehicle for the Explosives Clearance Service Defence (EODD)

29 May 2020

The Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract to Volvo Trucks Netherlands for the Explosives Clearing Service Defence (EODD). VDL Defence Technolgies, together with Gemco Mobile Safety, contributed to this by supplying a series of 2 trucks and 3 specially equipped containers that can be used to clear explosives in which chemical, biological or nuclear contamination is expected or has been detected. These vehicles and containers form a joint deployment that requires 24/7 availability and intensive cooperation with emergency services such as safety regions, Municipal Health Services (GGD's), police and fire brigades.

VDL Defence Technologies took care of the development and production of the superstructure of 2 trucks together with VDL Containersystemen (supply of hook arm) and VDL Bus Venlo (supply of cabin conversion and equipment), all built up in the special workshop of VDL Bus Chassis.

Gemco Mobile Systems developed and built the 3 special containers. Volvo supplied the trucks and the special engageable front wheel drive so the truck can also be used in unpaved terrain.
